Maxima leaders – any thoughts?

😉 Try building your own. Flyfishers Paradise has a great kit for building your own leaders. they are strong and really lie down nicely. give it a go. I make a whole set in 3,4 and 5 wt and have them all year. I usually fish 3 to 4 times a week and it’s a great savings.

Thanks for the info . . . you build the leader with all Maxima green or do you use two different Maxima (ie butt vs mid)?Very popular in Australia, I use it for 90 percent of my fishing, either in spools or tapered leaders.
I use Maxima knotless leaders on all my light rods – they’re very tough, you can drag them, nic them and generally treat them poorly and they can take it.
I like the brown Maxima and use it as tippet as well.
the 3lb is a good allround small stream tippet here (in oZ)..
When I first saw the stuff I was concerned that the brown color would put fish off, but it doesn’t seem too even on the fussy fish waters.

Maxima ultagreen is a religion here in Michigan, 6-8lb typically for steelhead and salmon leaders (not tapered), and 10-15 lb for trout streamers.
