When we left Twin Bridges this morning, the skies were gray but it wasn’t snowing. By Virginia City, the snow was heavy and never let up until we got to West Yellowstone. This was a look at Earthquake Lake about 10AM from highway 287.

By the time we go into town, picked up park licenses and into the park, the weather had moderated but left the park coated with a white blanket of new snow. Even though it was Saturday and I knew it would be a bit crowded, we made tracks to the Firehole River.

You are never alone on the Firehole River.
Fished for about four hours among a constant caddis hatch in the runs below Biscuit Basin. There were rising fish everywhere as always.

You never think about big fish on the Firehole, and today was no exception. The action on an olive woolly bugger with a soft hackle trailer was consistent all afternoon. Dozens of fat browns and rainbows hit the softhackle or bugger on the swing or just as it landed along undercut banks. This river has a zillion fish in it.

Today was laundry day, so dinner was a simple pair of Panni’s in front of the TV watching football. Tomorrow we concentrate on fishing.
