MemberI am curious if anyone from the board makes a trip north towards Wisconsin for Salmon, Steelhead, and Lake Run Browns in the fall?

MemberMatt,
Where, when, and with who are you going?
I live in the Twin Cities and fish Sconni often for steelhead and browns, but not on the Lake Michigan side, mostly the Lake Superior coast (which is the best coast).

MemberI am not headed up until this friday (10/5) (unless I get a report from three buddies that are headed up this wednesday morning that the fishing is phenomenal).

MemberMatt-
We need rain in Wisconsin for it to be worth while– It rained yesterday here- and today a bit– I will going over there on Thus eve- I think I am going to float (with personal pontoon) the harbors– but I would say do Michigan until we get a bit more moisture- as you will have issues with fish quality- and combat fishing.
But this also depends where you go. I hate driving over there to low water so I keep my eyes peeled on water flow data and keep my schedule flexible so as to leave as soon as we get some water–
Right now they are staging and with a good push of water out to the lake – mucho fish will come up.
Best of luck- but if I had a choice this time of year- and was coming from your direction up– I would do the big waters of Michigan.
Check this guy out- http://www.michiganstreamside.com/index.htm –he was very helpful on some big water advice- I think he takes his drift boat out on the big lake to get lake runs– but since you now have a boat- I personally would do the big rivers in Michigan.
Have fun.

MemberThanks Dan. I just need to convince myself to drive the extra distance…….
The NWS is saying there are 3 good chances of rain this week, and some cooler weather towards the end of the weekend. We actually had the discussion about ditching this trip and heading to the Southern Council Conclave……….but it would be much of an “annual” trip if we don’t go.
We have the illustrious “trout parks” in missouri to hone our combat fishing skills. I just hope my polish has improved since last year.

MemberMatt,
I guess it’s all perspective and what you are used to, but right now I would float the Norfork any day over battling a bunch of snaggers for half dead salmon.
That’s just my 2 cents though.

MemberMatt,
Looks like they’ve gotten a bit of water.

MemberDon’t worry Tim, i have become one with the USGS stream flows for the area…………
Now if I could only find the time to tie some more flies, I am sadly behind on tying for this year.
