MemberGood idea for a thread, Lando. But it is really hard to choose just one.
The first fish that popped into my head was caught last spring. I was fishing a soft hackle under a bobber (indicator?). When I set the hook I thought it was a rock. Having had this happen to me before in this spot, I decided to “play” the rock for awhile. Luckily my I was right and that rock eventually began to move. It ran upstream about 15 yards through some fast water and I gave line and followed him. Then it ran back down stream. It continued to run back and forth though this fast water about 7-10 times. then it found an eddy where it just sat and swam circles with the varying current. About 10 minutes later I was able to land it. Turned out to be a rainbow that was 29″ long. Unfortunately I was fishing alone and don’t like to take pictures of fish laying on the rocks, so I didn’t have a camera. There was a guy fishing near me, but his camera was in the truck, because it was a rainy day.
My most memorable days on the drink were with Lando. One included fishing a riffle until we were tired of catching fish, so we helped some old people stick some nice fish. Another included my fishing a small 10 square foot trough, and catching fish on every cast for a few hours. These fish were just gorging themselves we even caught a few that were so full that they were puking on us. If Lando hasn’t posted a pic of that on this board maybe he still has it.

Joel ThompsonMemberClint I know your secret spot!!! 😉 When are we going? I will take your picture!
This is one of my most memorable fishies. My first steelhead! I hooked it on an egg sucking leech and then had to chase it down river about a 1/4 of a mile before I could land it! The fight lasted about 25 minutes and the whiskey celebration afterwards lasted the rest of the day. 🙂
My other one was a big brown trout I caught on a lead eyed bugger on 5x tippet because it was getting late and I didn’t want to tie a new leader on. I will see if I can find that picture and post it!

MemberIt was 1980 and I was ten years old standing on a neighbors dock at Todd’s lake. Todd’s lake was a small community lake that was chocked full of aquatic vegetation. I had missed a couple of Largemouth Bass on a Hula Popper in this spot already. The strike on a Hula popper from a ten year olds perspective is almost enough to bring you to your knees, at least in my case it was. So it was with great anticipation when I cast out my brand new Big Bad Leroy Brown lure that I would hook and finally slay that giant Bass of Todd’s lake.
First cast, nothing but weeds. Hmm maybe a sinking plug wasn’t my best choice for a weed-chocked lake. To late now I’d spent my allowance and I was gonna make the most of it. I studied the lay of the weeds and found a path just wide enough to get my lure thru free of snags, if I got my cast just right. Made the perfect cast and started the retrieve when outa nowhere a boil appeared and my line went tight. My hookset was followed by a giant Largemouth leaping what looked like 2 feet out of the water. Well to make a long story short after a battle of epic proportions,,,, I landed the fish and ran home as fast as I could to weight it. It was a solid 2.6 pound Largemouth and by far the largest one I had ever seen on the end of my rod.My mom had the fish mounted for me that Christmas and today it hangs over my tying desk. It’s tiny in comparison to the fish I’ve caught since but it’s the one I remember most.

MemberI don’t really remeber fish, just days and seasons on the water, I guess my favorite was the second steelhead I ever caught.

MemberI caught this beast last fall in 8 inches of crystal clear water after I just about walked right past him. It is amazing how well fish can blend in with the bottom. It is definitely one of my more memorable fish.

The Itinerant AnglerSomething about that system just makes the fish look right; that and the stripped red and white oak forest behind you tipped me off.

I shared the story once already about this guy but just to give those who missed the earlier thread, this fish was the result of a pee break on the way to another river.

MemberMine would probably be when I was 14, my dad took my brother and I back to Wynne (say it “wine”) lake in Canada.

MemberI have the short term memory of a goldfish, so my most memorable fish is definitely the monster striper that took me 150 feet into my backing before slipping the hook on Saturday. Dang, I wanted that fish!

Member😉 After fishing for salmon for 2 days and never having any luck, I bought a fly, an Alley’s shrimp on the third day. I thought that it would work since we fishing in the late afternoon and it would be more visible. Lo and behold it worked and I got my first salmon ever after many years of trying. A great 12 lbs. and what a fight. I guess it pays to think like a salmon. Memorable. The trout I’ve caught through the years pale beside it.
