Day One in Bozeman – We arrived in Bozeman about 11:30 CST.  The flights were on-time and smooth.  Once in-town, the weather, the air, the mountains take your breath away.  It’s just different from the Southeast. We re-acquaint ourselves with Bozeman, a few fly shops and a few local friends.  I remember buying stuff in at least four shops last year.  Last year, I succumbed to an on-sale 7wgt Sage XP at the Greater Yellowstone Flyfishers in four corners, a hat for the wife at Montana Troutfitters and tee-shirts for friends at The Bozeman Angler.  This year, the ritual continues. We don’t fish on day one.  It’s a bit like having breakfast before opening the gifts.  The weather will be a bit nasty this next week, but that just means the fish rising to the bluewings will be easier Woolly Bugger targets. There is much joy to come and no need to rush it.

Day Two -The weather today is clear, cool and windy.  The stormy front went through yesterday.  Made it out to Beartrap Canyon on the Lower Madison for a few hours.  Unfortunately, the wind was a killer and the blue bird skies made fishing tough.  Only managed one nice Cutt Bow of 18” on a partridge-pheasant soft hackle. Could not even get a picture because the fish, the wind, and the river conspired against me. Beartrap is a very pretty place, but when the wind blows, its difficult to even stand up in the river.

A couple of Bear Trap Canyon images

Here’s a short video clip that kinda shows ya what the wind was like!

    More to come!
