There has been almost no rain to speak of in Western NY, PA and Ohio, so the fall steelhead runs have not started yet.  However, some of the bigger tributaries have just enough water in them that a small scattering of fish have made their way into the lower courses of these rivers.

Enough is enough and I had to get out, if for nothing else but to make some drifts, tie some knots, put on the waders and lose a half dozen flies to snags.

Here are some photos of my morning on the river.  Somewhat embarrassing posting these very poor photos on this board of experts, my skills just dont seem to be improving.  Anyway….on to the pictures.

Sun coming up over the Reservation.

Very low water, with only a few runs and holes for the fish to hold in.

It was nice to get the bigger gear out again

I lost a large fish (probably pushing 10lbs) on its second jump…eventually landed this 2 yr old.

Decided to end the morning stripping a zonker at the rivers mouth.  When I got there I saw that about 20 guys had beat me to the spot….it was elbow to elbow.

Rain expected this week.  The aquifers really need a decent base before things can really get good.

Nice silver fish; looks like a steelhead to me, all right!

Nice fish.  As for the photos #2 has got a funky shadow going across it, not much you can do about that other than not taking the shot, the rest are more just underexposed than anything else, as if you were trying to use too fast of a shutter speed than the light and your lens could really handle.  What mode were you using the camera in?

They look a little better today, did you go back and adjust the exposure in an editing program, or is it the different monitor I’m on today?

Edit:  It’s the monitor, still trying to get the one at the home dialed in right.

yeah…my new monitor at home shows them quite different as well…still not that great but somewhat better.

So this would bring up a seperate issue….obviously a monitor will affect how you do you post photo processing.

I’d like to hear more on that too.
