Any Landon Mayer fans out there?

I’m with you, marktronic. I bought the DVD directly from Landon after he spoke to our trout club in Centennial. He made such a fine impression that I booked a Dream Stream trip with him in October, when the browns will be running out of the reservoir. I’ve been fishing much longer than Landon’s been alive, but I know for sure that I can learn from him. On his video, he dances across those river rocks as if he’s Baryshnikov, for godsakes.

With all due respect to the proprietor of this board, I think Landon is the most impressive youngster in fly fishing at this moment. And his book is filled with detailed information, much of which I haven’t seen before.

I’m counting down the days until our trip. First guided trip of my life.

Can’t really say I am a fan of Landon’s or not, having never met him in person, but I have to admit that I am a bit put off by the marketing (having looked at his website and book).

    Hey guys –

I appreciate the comments and, indeed the kind words.

you don’t need a book and DVD to catch the biggest trout of your life.

This year marks 27 years since my high school graduation.

From the intro on the DVD…

Landon: “People often ask me what I consider to be a trophy trout…Trophy trout to me mean three things.

    Hmmm,

    Also…..

At least Landon has pictures and footage to back his claims of being a big fish specialist….

I just read and watched Kelly Galoup’s “Streamer Fishing for Trophy Trout” book and dvd…his book has no pictures of him catching “trophy” trout using his “jerk-strip” streamer technique, just some file photos.

Where did Galloup figure into this argument?

    John…

I was just comparing books and dvd’s of two self-described “big fish specialists”…

Landon chose to provide documentation of the success of his system in the book and DVD.

Anyway, I have a little buyers remorse in the $50 I spent on the Kelly Galloup dvd and book and none whatsoever on the Landon Mayer dvd and book…

    BTW…Nice fish John… http://www.slideinn.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=190&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=

I would suggest that by looking at John’s fish on that post one could come to the conclusion that jerk stripping streamers on a sinking line, ala Galloup, appears to be a very effective technique…

I have no doubts that Landon is a spectacular fisherman and I would love to spend a day and learn some of his techniques.

I’m not much interested in the title of Most Impressive Young’un….

I’m an infrequent visitor to this page, and the various reactions to my post yesterday on this thread explain to me why that’s so. The original thread asked if there were any Landon fans. The thread had languished for 12 hours without a single response. So I jumped in, and in so doing, I paid Zach a backhanded compliment. Too bad he can’t read it that way.

As for Landon’s “marketing” — interesting choice of words — he’s a big fish specialist. And yes, he explains why a 15-inch brookie is a trophy, too. Landon’s a fine young man with a bright future and I’m more than happy to sing his praises.

I’m also an admirer of Kelly Galloup, and own his book and CD.

And Mr. Pommer, what, may I ask, is your point? Yawn to you too.
