My good friend and bamboo rod business partner Lee Orr has been fishing MT since he was knee high as his dad is from Billings and his family still lives there. So I finally was able to go out there with him 7/27/07 to 8/5/07 during the annual week stay at cabin #6 at the Cinnamon Lodge on Gallatin (props to Jim and Jo). I think their family has stayed at the Cinnamon since the early 1940’s.

The fires are hit and miss. The clarity wasn’t too bad. It rained every day, but only in small showers. It was enough to knock the smoke down. I think it was pretty smokey on Tuesday(?). You couldn’t see the peak in Big Sky that day. They had the trails into a few creeks closed off completely, banning any fishing on those streams due to nearby wildfires. Which kinda blowed because one of those streams is big cutt water that we had plans for.

Looks like a great trip. That is a beautiful place. Hope I get there one day.

The Postal Service is the name of the band. I dig ’em. Hear them on Sirius Alt Nation 021. Everytime I hear that tune’s opening moments (prior to making the video) I pictured using in a video with a river scene sped up to show clouds shooting over (i.e., kinda-sorta like the opening scenes) but I couldn’t get a day when the clouds/wind/river would cooperate to get that kinda scene. Still, you get the feel. I do that with a lot of music though. When I hear a song I picture what kind of movement the song should have with film.

Gawd, getting back to real life responsibility sux ya know? Wishin’ I was still kickin’ up dirt and smashin’ frog’s fanny into EHC’s. I’m worthless after these trips.

Just a thought Philip, but if you’ve not given them a listen already, you check out Guster. Their album ‘Keep It Together’ is way cool. I’m pretty sure they’re on iTunes Music Store, & I have already been checking out The Postal Service there.

I’ve been trying to figure out the band you chose for that video, without actually looking up lyrics. It just sounded very familiar somehow. Not that they are like Guster, but similar mood. More electronic, but not oppressive. They are a bit like Imogen Heap or Frou Frou tho, which I do like. Good video by the way. Go figure, it makes me want to go fishing. That’s ok, that’s all I think about these days anyway.

    Thanks, Darrin

    Phillip,
I know what you mean about feeling worthless.

I uploaded about half of my slide scans last night. The scanner I used is a CanoScan 4200F. I’m not that impressed. The slides look way better both in terms of clarity and color than these scans show. Here are a portion of the photos I took in Montana.
