Rocky Mountain National Park !! Went Fishin !

Hi All,

We just returned from a trip to Colorado. My son and I decided on the way out to change plans from hiring a guide, to backpacking into the mountains and fishing ourselves. To make it a bit easier, we bought two 7 piece rods that fit into our backpacks. One from Cabelas in KC and the other from Orvis in Denver. There was a timely article in one of the recent fly fishing magazine (Fly Fisherman maybe) about high country fishing. After a trip to the fly shop to get some local flies, licenses etc . . we were off . .

I had never caught any of the Colorado Green Back Cutthroat Trout before this trip. They are a very beautiful fish.

We got the 8′ 5wt 7 pc Stowaway from Cabelas. That is a very nice casting rod. My son and I both liked it much better than the 8’6″ or 9′ version of the same rod. My son grabbed the Cabelas rod after I bought it and I never

Stowaway > Orvis, the orvis rod has a lot of tip bounce in a horizontal direction when casting, IE your loops end up horizontal when trying to shoot…

The hike to Sky Pond was the hardest. 5 miles one way with about an 1800 ft elevation gain on the way. Also had to climb a water fall, which was not hard but required hands and feet both to get up.

Dream lake was a 1 mile walk down a paved trail.
