Good post Dave. It is getting hot, dry and windy here in Montana and anyone traveling this way should use a lot of caution when enjoying a campfire in the woods. I don’t necessarily agree with all of your thoughts on the fighting of fires though, but I don’t want to get into a debate about that right now.

What I really want to know is how the Missouri has been fishing. Next week I have to take a couple of very famous people fishing on the Mo and I have not been there since early May. I don’t want to get my ass handed to me in front of these guys so any advice you would be willing to give me would be greatly appreciated as I know you fish the MO a lot. My trip with these guys is on Tuesday July 10th.

If anyone else has any good input for me as well that would be great!

    Dave –

    Any update on this fire?

Zach, the Madison fire is 100% contained and they are just doing clean up on it now. My twin brother was the fire management officer on the fire and he just got home today.

It is hotter than sin in Montana right now and the rivers are taking a huge nose dive and water temps are going up in a hurry. They shut down the upper 19 miles of the Big Hole today and I would imagine that very soon there will be restrictions on all of the rivers.

    Joel,

Did they close the Firehole/Madison in the park yet?

Fly shops are telling folks that the Firehole is too hot.

You guys should read that article in the Billings Gazette about the team that got trapped in the wildfire last week. Amazing story.

I’ll be out there on the 27th (Big Sky area). Sure hope that some of the smoke has died out by then.

I read today that they are asking anglers not fish from 10:00am to 6:00 pm on a lot of YNP’s water because of the water temps.
