I have a chance to buy an older lightspeed for half price..  I have not seen it,   and the owner said hes used it in alaska and its pretty banged up…   I want to try a lightspeed becouse the drag is sealed.. Someone said the ross is sealed but it is not really..  When it gets wet the drag changes so I know they are not water tight..   Is there any differences with the older light speed from the newer ones other than the coating.. Im going to use it in my boat and its going to  get some wear   anyway..

I have a pre alox Lamson Lightspeed and I think it is a great reel.  However, I bought it new for about half price when they closed out the model to bring on the Alox finish.  I wouldn’t pay half price for one if it were banged up.  Half price would be OK if it was in good condition.

I agree with Bob. I have four of the older ones and they are awesome reels. I wouldn’t pay half price for a beat up one though. Ebay.

I second that. I have 3 plus spools and they are great.
