MemberI bought a set of the old Rod Loft racks for $30 when they introduced the new version. I love them and find that they

MemberThe rod loft does seem really expensive for what it is, especially in comparison with the rod ready. I’d buy the rod ready from a company that has a good return policy in case it turns out to be too flimsy. You’d only be out shipping if it turns out to be crap.

MemberMike,
Check out this very helpful thread. Find the post by SplatteBoy. Home made and cheap too.

MemberI just took a look at the back of my vehicle (Honda Element) and discovered two hooks hidden under the interior trim by a sliding piece of plastic.

MemberCarter is on the money. They use it for yak deck tie downs and a bazillion other things.
My hardware store has some of the bigger stuff on a spool. If they did have it, it might be cheaper than a sports specialty shop. Just guessing.

MemberI have a set of Rod Lofts that I have used in my 2001 Chevy Blazer (4dr) and 2005 Durango.

Cameron MortensonMemberMike…I am not trying to hijack the thread here…but isn’t the Honda Element about the perfect fly fishing/family/camping/grocery getter/child carrier/everyday vehicle?
We’ve had ours since 2004 and I couldn’t be more happy with it. We’ve had no problems at all and I still think that for the money…about $22,000 for the EX All Wheel Drive model…that you can’t find anything that touches it.
I still get some shit from friends about driving a “box” around…but I like the Element a lot.

MemberHere are some pics of the set-up. I’ve been pretty happy with it so far…

…I guess these would be necessary too…

Cameron, the Element is definitely ideal for what we do. I purchased the vehicle (2007 EX) just a little over a month ago, and it has impressed basically everyone who has been in it. Great storage space, versatility, decent mpg, awesome stereo, and its pretty safe from my messy fishing buds too (coffee spills, muddy waders). No rugrats for me yet, but I bet it would be great for them too. The only thing I am somewhat concerned about is the durability of a urethane interior, but we will see how that goes. As for the “box” comments, I was braced for that. It’s definitely been fun watching my buddies opinions of the vehicle change from unsure to very positive after a weekend of fishing and camping out of it. Have you made any modifications to yours to make it more “fishing friendly”?
…Sorry about the size of the photos, but I wasn’t sure how to change the size in the link I used to post it.

Cameron MortensonMemberThe interior of ours has held up very well…but we are careful.
