Has anyone ever had any issues with 6X and 7X fluoro tippet snapping.

I think there was a post about this a while back but I didnt want to dig it up.

First, mono will decay over time.

Almost all of my leaders are hard mason mono, with fluorocarbon tippets.

I use the 6 and 7x tippet for very shy fish.

Get a  scale, preferably the electronic type, and tie  loop on each end and test the strenght of your line, if its not in the area of the listed pound rating, youve over heated it in the trunk, or its a poor quality company.. I like reo… I was told  Flouro carbon is for under water, mono is for on top…   Ill bet you can use number four flourocarbon under water  and the  fish still cant see it…   What the finer tippets would be for in my estimation is for lots of action..  This can be done by putting the fly on a loop…   ..dave

Rusty – was it Rio fluoro? I had exactly the same thing happen last year. I was using a spool of 7X Rio fluoro and as I got down towards the end of the spool – it was very brittle and snapped way too easily. It was probably just an anomaly (I think Rio makes very good products) but I did switch to Orvis fluoro (it’s a little cheaper) and I have not had a problem since.
