I’m new to this board and new to the east coast. Anyone fished in Md? I’m fishing the Savage on April 1 and the Yock & North Branch of the Potomac in August. My new home rivers in eastern Md are the Gunpowder, Ptapsco & Patuxent. Hoping to fish PA as well. Just wondering what patterns to tie in what sizes?

    Seth,

can’t help you with info on MD but if you want to know some info on PA streams and the hatches, here is a decent website with a select few streams around the state.

My kneejerk reaction to your post was going to be…

“dont bother…there are no fish there. Its not worth the gas.

Thanks anyway.I’m adjusting to the fishing scene here. I did fish a local stream last week and some how didn’t see another soul the 2 hours I was on the water. Caught two small fish. Not what I’m accustomed to back in Colorado, but it was still good to be out of the house.

    Hey Seth
I live outside of DC and work in south central PA (breeches and what not) so I can help you out with information on that area.

    nobait,
I thought the Savage also had some cutts. Is that still the case ? I’m going to try to fish the Savage early summer.

I floated the North Branch a couple years ago, very early in my fly fishing career. I missed a lot of fish (my fault), and would like to do it again now that I’ve refined my skills a bit.

But the thought I wanted to convey here is, and I was really surprised by this, but the North Branch of the Potomac is a flat out stunningly beautiful place to fish.

I caught mostly rainbows (small) but did get one beautiful brookie (smaller).
