    Sounds good Zach!

Can you ask Bernard if we can see some pictures & details of his rods?
And while you’re on it maybe a couple of demo rods to boot…

I’ve seen the pics on the Scott site but those pics are rather small.

Zach, just listened to the podcast.
To be honest, I was a bit disappointed…

The interview went pretty technical in a way that it became too much science rather than craft.

It’s obvious that Bernard approaches building bamboo in a different way than most, but what I wanted to know was how he came to the construction he uses and how he improved his rods. Did he examine, cast & fish other cane rods. Which ones did he like and used to his advantage. What makes his nodeless rods better in his view (casting/fishing rather than scientific way). I thought I was listening to rocket science rather than craftmanship, hard work and introduction to his rods

Maybe I have to listen again…

Although I have avoided the allure of cane I have to say I would Love to have one. I just don’t know which one and I have never been anywhere you could cast cane rods. Nice audio edit on the violins.

    Zach,

First of all, I’ve never seen Bernard’s rods so I have no clue how nice his rods are. I’d love to cast one one day.

Bernard’s innovation comparing to Stradivarius is indeed interesting.
However I think it all comes down to experience in selecting the right bamboo culms (texture, size, density etc.), understanding the way bamboo fibers work, figuring out the tapers and using highly accurate tools and attention to details.

Well, I’ll listen to it later this week again more carefully.

One thing I wonder about is with 2 companies is he building all the rods? Does he have a crew that helps him get things done? At 36 years of age how many rods has he built? Comparing what he does to a legendary musical instrument is a bit of stretch. It would make good ad copy though! The Stratavarius of flyrods make it sing on your trout stream today. Only 3K! Get yours today before all the japanese salarymen buy them up for their ultra special vacation!

That’s a funny thing to say, actually.

Well I’m sure I could cast the rod better than I could play the violin. Have you seen any of the Sweetgrass
