“clear” Fly Lines??

    What’s the consensus on these “clear” Fly Lines?

    MRFC has Cortland 555 “clear” on sale and I was tempted to bite but, thought that if “clear’ was so great I would see more people using it than I have (zero).

    Lou. Shhhhh. This has been part of my secret arsenal the past year. I can only say the line seems to give an advantage for subsurface fishing during periods of high sun. I use SciAnglers Stillwater line for fishing streamers in low/tailout conditions during mid-day in the highest sun. I can still fish short 3-4 feet of 6-8# mono for leader and the fish don’t care. I can notice a drop off of takes on my regular sink tip lines by late morning in the summer in falling water.

    According to the product developer at 3M I deal with, “The stillwater line will actually be more durable than standard floating lines because there are no bubbles in the coating (so it will not tend to crack as much or as fast..
