fishing logo help

Hi All! I am going to attempt to attach our company logo to this so you call all take a look at it. I want to use this to logo drop shirts and hats for our fly shop, but would like to dress it up a little so that it looks more like a fly fishing type item. I definitely want to add fly shop to the bottom of the logo. Can any of you think of anything else?

How about a branding iron stamping an outline of a fish on the logo. Like it though just throwing out the first thing that popped in my head 🙂 🙂 🙂

cool logo … you could dupe the skull and circle to the other side with a trout instead of a skull…. The skull and cattle company text make me think ‘guest ranch’ … is it a cattle company and fly shop only?

I really like the logo. But when I think about what type of business it’s for, what does it have to do with fly fishing?

I don’t mean to be negative about this, but shouldn’t there be some correlation between the two?

What if you widened the band around the skull and replaced the paisley characters with two or three trout?

I agree with the idea of replacing the skull with a jumping trout, maybe even with a fly line its mouth.

It’s a great looking logo, but watch your complexity.

Not sure it’s possible, but how about fly rods above and below Rock Creek, maybe the bottom one with line going below Cattle Company, or possibly forming the words. Good luck, Guy

As so many things in life, keep it simple.
A logo has only one function: to be remembered by who sees it.

Cattle company = skull
But fly fishing and a skull and/or cattle, I don’t see the link.

Like Zach said, try to cut down the details, just look for the most elementary part.
I’d say the horns of the skull is an elementary part that is worth a look to keep?
The link with fly fishing should be visable in some way.

How about horns on a trout with a cowboy on the other side of the logo casting a fly and having the end of the loop over the horns

Something completely different but it’s essentially the same: how to capture only the essential contours.

Logo’s should be the same in my view. Just the essential contours yet still recognizable.

Thanks everybody for your input on this. There are some great ideas out there! Guy I like the idea of adding fly rods above and below Rock Creek. I also played around with it a little this weekend and getting rid of the back ground behind the skull and the shadow behind Rock Creek sure simple it up and I think it looks nice. Plus adding fly shop to the bottom helps a lot too! I would still like to get a fly in there somewhere though…..

Hi All!

Well thanks to all of your help and Zach for introducing me to Ed Felker we have come up with a logo that I think is pretty damn cool! We may have to make a few minor changes after we get it back from the embroider, but this is basically what we have come up with. Let me know what you think!

Moosedog…that looks pretty sweet and really does carry the original theme with the skull.

I would have kept it much simpler, elementary.
There still too much going on, quite difficult to see it in a glance.

How about a stream (slightly resembling the shape of the skull) running between the horns and just one silhouette of a fly rod with a reel. And indeed just a black cirkel rather than details with white. etc.?

I think three parts are important:
* Link to cattle => horn
* fly fishing => just one, either a fly or a rod
* the link between these two => stream
