The Itinerant AnglerHey guys –

Cameron MortensonMemberZach…I agree with you that many a road/fishing trip begin and end with NPR broadcasting.

Joel ThompsonMemberI too am a huge fan of NPR. Our local NPR station here in Missoula is great! They have a program everyday from 12:30 to 13:00 where they read stories on the air. That is where I first came across Gierach. The best part about it was the guy who read his stories was from Austrailia and was very animated when he was reading. I remember I couldn’t wait to hear what was going to happen next at the end of each reading. Kind of reminded me of the kind of radio our parents and grandparents might of listened to.
I love the assortment of Folk, Bluegrass, Jazz, and even good old rock-n-roll they have on from time to time. But my favorite all time show on NPR goes to…..Car Talk!!! Those guys have never failed to put a huge smile on my face! 🙂
If any of you are ever passing through Missoula it is 89.1 on the radio dial. You won’t be disappointed!

MemberIf it weren’t for NPR, I guess I’d turn the radio off.

MemberI like PBS, don’t care for NPR but think it is great that you all do. What I don’t like it taking tax dollars to fund any part of it. To me, that is not a function of government. It would be like the government funding “conversative talk radio”. IMO

MemberI love NPR & PBS as well. Through DirecTV here in Nashville we get a couple of PBS stations and I watched a great fly tying show just the other night.
Something great I found was Soundstage (similar to Austin City Limits – except in Chicago) and they are running a 3-4 week special of Peter Frampton concert. Nice to step back in time, so to speak.

The Itinerant AnglerHey Bill –
I could see how you feel that way about the news shows; they are the antithesis of conservative talk radio and there is a reasonable argument to be made that they don’t have any more right to funding than said conservative shows.

The Itinerant AnglerIf you have a few hours one weekend, say while tying flies, you can download episodes of A Prairie Home Companion on their website, http://www.prairiehomecompanion.com.

MemberAgain, I enjoy PBS but I am against funding even good programs with tax dollars no matter the content. If the type of show they broadcast is worth having, they should be funded by those who watch them.

I am a big fan of NPR–it gets me to and from work everyday.

The Itinerant AnglerGentlemen this is veering into a discussion of politics instead of what it started out being: about a cool TV program and weird radio phenomena.

MemberGood Morning Zach,
Sorry for the veering.

MemberNPR and PBS are a whole world cultural experience. You get a little of everything, and from a point of view that is not found in commercially sponsored broadcasts. I actually disagree that it is biased. It’s my experience that commercially sponsored “news talk” always has an agenda to push. That’s why I find NPR so refreshing.
Also, I think, but can’t quote figures, that NPR is, by the lion’s share, listener supported and actually gets very little federal funding.
I absolutely love Fresh Air with Terry Gross. It’s an outstanding collage of contemporary arts and issues.

MemberI’ve mentioned several times how my radio never gets tuned off NPR except to find another station
And I thought I was the only one with OCD when it came to NPR.

MemberHaving just started on my taxes and reviewing donations, I guess I must think highly of both PBS and NPR since I seem to give them money! Around here (Upstate SC), WNCW is the NPR of choice. Great eclectic combo of Blue Grass, folk, indi, etc., plus they air BBC news which I prefer to NPR News. This station is just flat different and that means a positive thing! They have repeaters in Boone, Charlotte, and Greenville (home is Spindale NC :o) and can also be reached on the net via:
Just click on “live music.”
Unless you’re pining away for classical (which I like but seldom pine for personally), I know you’ll like this station. Try it when you’re in this neck of the woods!
