MemberHappy Thanksgiving to all.
I took the kids out this morning for a few hours and they each caught 3 fish and hung in even though it was below freezing. Ryan got his 1st one ever right at 1st light. Kaitlin has caught a bunch and it was funny to listen to hear coaching the litte guy. I think I was more excited than them. I will post a few pics later. Awesome stuff.

Cameron MortensonMemberSteve…you should be proud of yourself as a father for passing on your angling prowess.

MemberCameron, thanks! This was truly a fantastic Thanksgiving.
Sorry for the poor pics. The one thing I can’t get either one to do is hold a fish yet.
The little man with his fish while Kaitlin holds the rod for him

This was an adult fish and he did a great job landing it.

Kaitlin right after loosing one. We left the fly gear at home and took their spin casting stuff for ease of operation(1st time I have ever taken both by myself and it was interesting :))

Great times and they talked about it all day long.

Cameron MortensonMemberSteve…you and the family weren’t tresspassing again were you…ha. (Has enough time passed for that to be at least a little humorous?)
What lures were the steelies chasing down?

MemberNope, no tresspassing today. I am going to wait a few years to introduce them to the life of crime 🙂
We were using my regular old egg patterns under small floats and a few BB’s. They might not have been using fly rods, but we have to draw the line somewhere! The fish were on and the 10lb Stren didn’t bother them so there were no horsing issues. The selfish part of me kept wishing for my own rod…
You are going to have a blast when you can take your little one with you. Start her early. Kailtin was going with me when she was 4 for very short trips and is now hardcore. Ryan is still in the fish, explore, fish mode. His times actually fishing are increasing each time out though. I think today will really pump him up and keep him fishing for even longer periods without getting bored. The hardest part is not pushing it and remembering that when you take them it is all about them and letting them be in charge about how long you stay.
Salty, do you have children?

Cameron MortensonMemberI guess I mistook the chartruse float for a Rapala.

MemberCameron, it is prime time right now. There are pretty good concentrations of fish at any and all obstructions and it can be fast and furious when they are in the mood. The stream we were fishing is our home water and the mouth is less than a mile from my house.
Crystal, thanks and I will do exactly that when I get home.

MemberSteve,
Now that is the proper way to spoil your kids, getting them started on 6-10 lb trout!

MemberNo shit, that thing is huge.

MemberZach, I don’t think they can really appreciate it yet.
Carter, Kaitlin has her own rod that she is sharing with Ryan right now(8 1/2 5wt)and has landed several smaller fish on her own. She is still having trouble with bigger fish though. Ryan has hooked a few and quickly looses them. He just can’t keep his hand off the reel yet. I really need to get a multiplier reel for them.

MemberThats awesome Steve.

MemberI was thinking that all multiplier reels are anti-reverse. I have absolutely no idea either. We need the anti-reverse feature because they both want to jump on that handle. Everyone I have ever started out does the exact same thing and loose all fish within 2-3 seconds until you can get them to keep their hand off the reel. I hope they are the same thing because, as you mentioned, a multiplier would be cool for charging fish.
Any multiplier/anti-reverse experts out there?
Dec 6, 2006 at 8:53 am #14325Carter Simcoe
MemberHell, I would forget the multiplier idea completely and concentrate more on the anti-reverse, convience Tracy the kids need an Abel or a Billy Pate, whatever you think is best if you know what I’m saying 😉

MemberThat is funny! “Honey, I need $700.00 to buy the kids a reel” I already hear the hysterical laughing…
