I’m into fly fishing for almost 25 years.
I’ve seen progression in fly fishing the past 5-8 years that hasn’t been seen inthe earlier years. Especially the faster, more advanced (?) rods are really moving fast.

Most of my rods are of the more classic style rods, both in action (more moderate action) and looks. I tend to like these rods better than the newer rods. In fact the newer rods don’t look as classy as the older ones. The hardware used seems to lag behind the graphite?

    My rods I use are:
    * Orvis Tippet (7.5ft #3) – I love the Superfine grip with reel rings!
    *Orvis Trout (8ft, #5)

I’m confused. The list you made includes many new rods including one that was just introduced last year.
Though there certainly are fast new rods, there are still plenty of new rods with the slower, traditional action. In fact, TFO jsut introduced a finesse rod as well as Winston with its BIIt (traditional) action rod.

    Peddler,
Both my Orvis rods are 25 years old or more.
My Sage LL is around 15 years old, my SP almost 10(?)
Yes my Scott is a recent one.

What I’m trying to say is that these rods are rods from gone by period. Many recent anglers (up to 10 years fishing) might not even know these rods. They grew up with faster than fast rods like the Sage XP. Many of our club members just can’t cope that well with slower actioned rods since all they use are fast rods from current era. I just like the relaxed casting of these rods as well as their classic looks.

    Jay,
I have no view other than to say personal preference and marketing.
