Thanks for your suggestions and advice on a 8wt purchase. After trying a number of “fast” action 8wts (T&T, Winston, Sage, Loomis and Orvis)….. decided to go with the Orvis zero-g. Seems like orvis rods do not get much respect in blue-blood fly circles… but this rod must just be made for me.
All these rods were excellent for me in the short/medium range but the T&T, Loomis and Orvis were far better in my hands at longer range (I tended to over power the sage and winston). The zero g was the hands down winner (for my casting style –as crude as it may be 😉 ) and pumping out 80 ft into the wind on a gusty chicago day was a breeze!
Anyway, just needed to yak about my weekend conquest…the wife is not interested in this talk!
By the way paired the zero-g with a Litespeed 3.5. Great reel –have one that I use on my 6wt… never disappoints.
Will be heading to the SE-Wisconsin Tribs on Wed. to test this gear in action… Kings are tinkering out but the coho browns and steelies should be grooving with all the rain. Hope to post pictures soon.
