I have heard that fishing with hoppers is an absolute blast.

Fish hoppers when they are around and yes they are a blast. Joe’s Hopper works best for me.

When I’m out west, I use foam hoppers with my favorite being a Chaos Hopper (Tied by Craig Matthews of http://www.blueribbonflies.com )

On some streams, the trout ignore them unless the wind starts blowing. I guess it’s not natural for a hopper to be in the water when it’s calm. I fish them on a dead drift most of the time……but there are times when a little twitch will drive a trout nuts.

Most people tend to fish hoppers when it is very hot and sunny out, which is natural hopper weather.

I have had awesome days fishing hoppers on beaver ponds and small spring creeks – anywhere with tall grass growing along the bank.

Well, I tied some hoppers over the weekend.  I tied the Club Sandwich, Chaos Hopper (thanks drifter), Chernobyl Hopper, and the Charlie Boy.  I chose those ones because I had never tied with foam before and was anxious to try it.  And, for the most part, everything went surprisingly well (I did manage to dump my whole bottle of head cement in my lap).  But what is the trick to tying the back legs on the Club Sandwich?  Mine keep getting twisted.

Thanks everyone for the help, I can’t wait to see what all of the “Hopper Hype” is about.

    Box Kid,

I usually tie the hopper legs before attaching them to the hopper body:

That’s what I have been doing.  Somehow when I am tying the legs to the body they get all twisted.  I guess it’s just one of those things you figure out through practice.  I’ll keep at it.  Thanks Drifter.
