Still obsessed with the double-haul and am dealing with very cold weather in NJ so I am stuck indoors. I think I may have found my problem……….the line hand. I think I am doing the haul with the left hand across my body and therefore not getting the oomph feeling! Will it be very noticeable when I get it?

What is the correct role of the left hand? Based on some reading it looks like the left hand has to go across your chest abd be just under the right hand. The left hand follows the right up until the power stroke and then they go in opposite directions.

Is the double haul for line speed or distance? What should I expect in terms of distance gained? For example I can throw 70 feet of line pretty easily but would love to hear the backing fly through!

    Hey Ausable –

Your guess as to the role of the left hand is correct.

Just curious are you using a distance line the Mastery XXD to get out that far?

I agree with Zach on about everything he has said, although, I have a slightly different opinion as to the function of the haul.

    Ausable –

The XXD lines make it possible (for me at least) to break 110′, but I can hit about 105′ with most lines.

    Dunfly,

Why does line speed get increased by so much if the rod does not load deeper? Is it simply pulling on a moving object to make it go faster?

The short answer is – yes.
