Cameron MortensonMemberThere has been a long thread on ultimate fly fishing vehicles on the Flyfisherman board and the FJ Cruiser was mentioned.

Member:'( Good question. I was promised a “fishing car” by someone whose life I helped. Well, the gentleman was filled with good intentions. He called and told my wife that he had the perfect car for the Doc, a Cadillac. We were very kind in our refusal and told this kind man that it was ok and that he could do us another favour if we needed one. So, I’m still driving my Lexus as my fishing car. I’ve covered the drivers seat with a water- proof seat cover and take off my waders and boots before I get in. The trunk is another story. Can’t carry groceries or anything else bigger than a fly box. I’m eyeing my wifes Jeep and I may have to trade at some point. Thought about my daughter’s 23 year old learner VW that sat in the driveway. She wouldn’t let us get rid of it until she moved to CA. Had to pay to have it towed away. I guess I’m just not destined to have a fishing car. :-[ Silver Doc

MemberChevrolet full size Z71 with a high top camper shell has done the job of Truck/RV nicely for me for the last 6 years. I use it to pull a fairly heavy center console boat as well as getting a smaller boat in and out of some nasty less traveled places.

MemberThat looks great. I had a 95 Cruiser and sold it. One of my biggest regrets…..I love Toyota’s. As soon as I get out of my truck (GMC) it’s back to a Cruiser.

MemberJeep Grand Cherokee LTD. Loaded, cozy and trail ready all in one package. 140,000 miles and still going strong. My only gripe is the same I have with all but the largest SUV’s, no room!
The new Jeep Commander should solve that!If I had any reason in the world to own a pick-up, I would wait around for this baby!

MemberMan that’s pretty awesome! 😮 I don’t think the backseat would be comfy but that is still one sharp looking Jeep. Of course I think my old 67 Scout was good looking…

MemberMy Toyota minivan may not be pretty, but it cost me less than $3,000 used (maybe my nickname should be The Itinerant Cheapskate), and it’s going on 200,000 miles with no major problems.
Plus, I can carry six people comfortably AND I can travel with all my 9-foot fly rods completely strung up, put together, and ready to fish – how many of you can say that about YOUR vehicles?
🙂

Cameron MortensonMemberHere are a couple pictures of “The Box” on a fishing trip this past summer to the Davidson River in N.C. Â The Yakima roof rack makes a nice secure area to place the fly rod during breaks and lunches back at the vehicle. Â

Notice the ability of the seats in the Element to fold up against the back windows of the vehicle allowing for a full size canine kennel to fit with ease.Jan 25, 2006 at 5:17 am #10667Jack Cummings

bdMinivans would make the perfect fishing machine! Too bad they got the ‘soccer Mom’ stigma attached to them. The fuel economy isn’t bad on them and you can for sure keep your gear rigged and ready in ’em! The fact sleeping in them is easy is great too.
Some manufacturer should come out with a high ground clearance, 4WD model.
I had to drive Dodge Caravans on company business. I went through 4 incarnation of them with but one problem… a water leak that was fixed painlessly.Jan 25, 2006 at 12:17 pm #10668brian dunigan

You have hit upon the only disadvantage to my Previa.

Member:'( You guys certainly know how to hurt a guy. I wish my wife wasn’t so practical and not wanting a extra cars’s insurance. I’m drooling. I’m going to have to talk to the “Sec. of the Treasury” aka “The Bride” Silver Doc

MemberDoes a Toyota Corolla count? Doesn’t have a bit of ground clearance, if I take it on gravel it whines. Maybe that’s why I never go off road??? When I grow up, I’m GONNA get a fishing vehicle. (Heck, only a dozen more years before I can THINK about retirement, maybe a fishing car than!)

MemberMy favorite fly fishing vehicle is any that get me to the stream! My car, wife’s mini-van, whatever! I’ll use the $ saved on a different vehicle for more equipment and gas money.

MemberMy fish car is a 2000 Chevy Blazer, complete with rod lofts inside (i can keep six 9ft rods in it…they bend a little at the tip, but not that much) and a CataCarryAll Rack on the roof to carry my pontoon boat.
