L.L. Bean is one of the largest outdoor companies in the world, but when it comes to fly-fishing, they try to act like a small start up. And with abundant hunting and fishing opportunities right out the back door of their Freeport, Maine, headquarters, it's amazing these guys get anything done at all. Sometimes being a large catalog company can create head-scratching conundrums (like wondering whether you're asking enough for your products). At the end of the day, though, there's a reason for the company's 100 years of success: old-fashioned quality.

Kyle Kosovich is the owner and head guide at Longboat Outfitters. Using antique plans and space-aged materials, he built a unique, structurally modern but historically accurate version of the classic White River jon boat (also known as the "jack boat"), which he currently uses to guide the Missouri Ozarks. From 1940s-style multi-day floats, complete with gourmet campfire baking, to modern tailwaters such as the Norfork, this is a boat--and a style of fishing--that can do it all.
