Hey guys -
I decided to integrate the Rules and Guidelines for this board into one post.
Revised Rules(1) Do not offer "helpful criticism," critiques, or opinions about the technical quality of a photograph or photographer unless the person who created the content has specifically requested a critique.
(2) This is not the appropriate place to critique any other website, magazine, book, photographer, writer, or other content producer. If people want to bring their work here to be critiqued, they are free to do that. We don't need to take it on ourselves to take anyone to task who hasn't stepped up to be reviewed.
(3) No complaining about the terrible state of the photography industry (See note below).
Quote:Like many of you, I see the declining prices that are being paid out to professional photographers, and I regret that this has come to pass. However, at this point, I think it's safe to say that we've thoroughly and completely discussed this issue. In light of continuing to have this board be a positive, friendly place for people to come and discuss their enjoyment of photography, rather than merely a place where people point to yet another instance of the average photographer being screwed by the big companies, I'm going to make a declaration: We're done with all that.
From now on, any post primarily discussing declining photography rates or crappy treatment of photographers generally will be deleted. I am not saying that this is an inappropriate topic of discussion, nor am I disagreeing with people who rightly point out that this is going on. But, I don't want to see my board simply become an online place for people to bitch. There are plenty of photography boards which frankly might be better places to air these discussions out anyway. This board is about fly fishing photography and it's meant to help and encourage those who love it.
Guidelines on Where to PostIt's time for some guidelines on where to post. I am going to go through and move some posts around after I am done writing this.
This website has several focuses but two of the biggest are fly fishing and photography. Obviously it is possible to take pictures of fly fishing, so the natural question is, where should such images go - in the General Discussions board or in the Photography board?
The answer is: the General Discussions board. General Discussions is meant to further the discussion of fly fishing and is the appropriate place for all photo essays, individual photos, trip reports, etc., dealing with fly fishing. General Discussions is meant to let people ask questions not just about the photos but about the subjects pictured, the how, when, why, where, etc. of fishing a given location.
The Photography section is primarily meant to host actual discussions of photography itself. That would include things like camera questions, technical issues, pleas for help, etc. Certainly photos should also be placed in the photo board, but those photos should be used primarily to illustrate a question or technique
about photography rather than about the subject of the photos.
I hope this clears things up, and explains why your posts are about to be moved around.
Thanks,
Zach
