Welcome to The Itinerant Angler. My name is Zach Matthews. I’m the host of this site and an outdoor writer and photographer. I started this website in April 2005. While you’re here, I hope you visit the Photoblog, check out the Bulletin Board and download The Itinerant Angler Podcast. It is one of the leading fly-fishing podcasts, with closing in on 200 episodes dating to 2006.
Since 2006, I have been a regular contributor to a variety of outdoor publications, including American Angler, Fly Tyer, Fish & Fly, Fly Rod & Reel, Fly Fisherman, Garden & Gun, Backpacker, Kentucky Afield, The Flyfish Journal and The Drake. Many of my past articles are available in the Magazine Articles section of this site. I’ve also provided general interest and travel writing for regional publications such as Arkansas Life magazine.
I am an FFF certified fly casting instructor. Every year, I travel to speak to TU and FFF groups, universities, and clubs. Please contact me for a list of references if you are interested in having me speak or give casting demonstrations to your organization.
When I’m not fly fishing, shooting pictures, or typing words, I’m a working trial lawyer with McMickle, Kurey & Branch in Atlanta, Georgia. I went to law school at the University of Tennessee.
I can be contacted during business hours at (770) 722-9784 or by email. For more background information, please see my list of feature publications. I am always open to friendly emails about materials on this site, so please do not hesitate to let me know if you have a question or comment.
Thank you for visiting The Itinerant Angler.
