Each year there is a run of juvenile black marlin down the east Australian coast, and in October-November they arrive on the flats at the northern end of Fraser Island in Queensland. They can be polaroided on the flats but numbers were thinning out during my trip with less than favourable weather.
This year I managed to have the opportunity to fish for this incredible species hosted by Scott and Katrina Mitchell and their boat Gadget. We trolled teasers to raise one fish and managed to convert it to a hook up. After 10-15 minutes the fish was lost with pulled hooks, but we managed this video which captured some of the jumps this fish made: http://vimeo.com/113076074
I used a #12 Scott Tidal, Australian made Harfin 110W reel and a version of Peter Morses Klingon.
Unfinished business… Will have to go back next year now!
